Posted by Mary Beth Eversole on August 23, 2011 at 10:50 AM Comments comments (0)

Hi All!

Well it's that time of year again and along with a new school year, there are new things in the studio as well. Lessons are now taking place at the studio as in-home services are no longer offered. There are new events like the musical movie nights and returning events like the required studio recitals and the NATS and FCMTA optional events (check out the calendar for all events) and things are getting off to a great start!

As a reminder, please always review your guideline policy for the scheduling and absence/cancellation policies.

I know a lot of you are transitioning to new schools this year so I just want to say good luck and I look forward to having fun in your lessons!!

Happy Fall!!

:-)

Event Updates

The Spring Formal Recital location has been decided upon: St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 2000 Stover, Fort Collins, CO 80525. For those who participated last year this is the same place. The recital is on Friday May 27th beginning at 7pm.

The Summer Recital theme has been decided opon- this year it is Amusement Parks. The students will perform a recital in the morning and then students, parent chaperones and I will carpool to Elitch's Amusement and Water Park in Denver for the afternoon. Students will pay their own entry fee to the park. The event will more than likely take place in July, but the date will be determined closer to the Summer Trimester. If you are interested in hosting the recital for this event or being a parent chaperone or driver please let me know!

The NATS Singing Competition will take place on Saturday April 2nd at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. This is an all day event with scheduled singing times for the preliminary and subsequent semi- and final rounds. If you are interested in participating in this event please discuss it with me in your lesson this week. The paperwork is due to me no later than Monday February 21st, but the music you will perform needs to be chosen as soon as possible.

Attention Interested Piano Accompanists! The singers for the NATS event are in need of an accompanist who can do rehearsals before the event and be present the day of the event until the singer is done with the competition. Please contact Mary Beth Eversole if you are interested in being an accompanist. Must have good sight reading and collaborative piano skills.

Student Achievement Day is no longer allowing game room to be an option to fulfull the two option requirement for the event. However, the game room, along with a scavenger hunt and the Noon Baroque and Classical Vocal and Instrument Presentation, created and performed by your instructor Mary Beth Eversole and several of her FCMTA colleagues, will be activites you can participate in along with your perfoming and options that day. Please plan on spending about 1/2 the day at this event and come ready to have fun!! A note to teen helpers: your shift will probably be 2-3 hours long along with the time you will spend performing your songs and completing your options.

Success in 2010!!

Well congratulations must go out to all of my students for their awesome performances in 2010! Not only did we have fun at our existing Halloween, Holiday and Spring recitals, we also added a new themed recital in the summer time and it was so exciting! I'm open to ideas for the theme of the Summer 2011 recital so please send them to me!

The studio has really grown this year too! We're at a full 39 students and I'm planning on starting a couple Kodaly Method Classes at Boomer Music in March 2011 for students who are interested in learning piano or voice but are too young to meet the age requirement. Please pass the word to your friends and family that the class will be geared towards 4-6 year olds who want to start piano and another class will be for 9-11 year olds who wish to take voice lessons. It will be a weekly hour long class, $15 per class, and the first class period will be March 17th-May 28th on Thursdays for the young ones and hopefully Saturdays for the 9-11 year olds. It's going to be a wonderful addition to this already booming studio!

To my adults, I'm planning to have an adult only recital sometime in 2011 complete with hors d-oeuvres and cocktails so be looking out for that. If anyone wants to host I'd be ever so grateful!

This Spring we will be preparing for Student Achievement Day on March 5th, some of you have signed up for that. Please be aware that all art, construction, and written projects will be due to me no later than Thursday February 24th.

Another event that some of my singers will be preparing for is the NATS Regional Vocal Competition taking place in April. We will be choosing music and jumping right into preparing for this competition as soon as lessons start back in January.

We will also be getting ready for our Spring Formal Recital which will take place on Friday May 27th at 7pm. The venue is still TBD. I'll let you know as soon as I know where it will be:-)

New to lessons this spring trimester, I am introducing listening lessons. The concept of this lesson is to allow the student to bring a song to me off of their ipod and then we will learn either the entire song or the main melody and chord structure from the song. This helps the student to utilize their ear in creating the music while still allowing us to discuss the theory elements within the song. I'm hoping it will be a fun addition to our lesson time!

Circle of Fifths Club: I have several students studying right now to enter into the circle of fifths club. One gains membership into this club (and onto my studio wall) if and only if they can write and name all of the key signatures in our well-tempered tuning system of music. The test can be taken as many times as it takes, but it must be passed 100% in order to get into the club. The reward is having your name put up on my Circle of 5ths plaque on my wall, receiving a certificate and best of all a $5 or $10 gift card to Target depending on if the student completes all key signatures in treble clef only or in both treble and bass clef. Parents be aware, the students have gone through how to find all of the key signatures as part of their theory homework and lesson work with me and they have a study sheet to work with so please remind them to study! Students: so far no one has made it onto the wall so study hard and you could be the first!

Looking forward to a great new year and I can't wait to get back to teaching all of you!
